Uh, yeah, Peeves apparently stopped in again yesterday (Monday) morning. Although, the way he said “Hi” left ME a little peevish…

It started while I was cooking an egg for breakfast; it was in Phase I of “over medium” preparation. Decided I was going to SOFTEN a stick of real butter in the microwave, so I chunked it up and placed the chunks in a custard cup. In the process of transferring said loaded custard cup to the microwave, the cup jumped out of my hand and landed in the egg… upside down… with every piece of butter buried in the egg (and the yolk obliterated). (Peeves #1 for Monday)

OK… I can attempt to rescue this. Retrieved custard cup from egg. Fresh custard cup retrieved from cupboard. Butter chunks rescued from egg and placed in cup. Decide to attempt “clarifying”, to cook (denature) any egg protein that may have come along for the ride. Melt #1 successful. Allowed to cool in cup, scraped the foamy stuff off the top. Placed in microwave, set for 1 min on defrost (30%). Not 20 sec into that… *BOOM*. Open the door, butter is OUTSIDE of the cup on the microwave floor and melted butter covers every square inch of the interior. So much for attempting to clarify via that method. (Peeves #2 for Monday)

Well, on to emptying the dishwasher. Open cupboard (located directly above dishwasher). Put a dinner plate on the bottom shelf. Bend down to pull a couple more items from the machine, and I hear the sound of a glass bowl MOVING inside/atop another bowl… look up in time to see a bowl from the shelf ABOVE the dinner plates (mind you, I never touched anything on that shelf!) LEAP from where it was stacked on its mates and TUMBLE to the floor… miraculously unbroken. (Peeves #3 for Monday)

At that, I decided I NEEDED to “take the Miata out of storage”, so I called the insurance company and “activated” the road insurance for it; following that by calling the local Body Shop to have them order the necessary parts for its repairs from last November’s “Peeves Incident”.

What was the November Peeves Incident? Wellll… the Miata was already on “storage insurance”, tucked away in its own space in the Miata Garage, plugged into the trickle charger and covered up. I had just made sure the snow blower was put together, freshly gassed-up, had oil, and would start/run (like a dream, it did). Stepped out of the garage, hit the “close” button for the door…. CRASH! Stick foot under the door as it’s closing to break the beam and send it open again. See *stuff* on the floor that used to be safely stowed on one of the boards The Engineer had carefully maneuvered into the rafters back in the late 90s when he had the Miata Garage built… and that board was on the floor … and debris on the Miata cover. Cleared the junk and debris away, lifted the cover… and saw this:

Bruised Miata

Yup, two goodly dents in the left fender and hood. Both parts have to be replaced - the hood is too light a gauge to be properly bumped out, and the fender got bent in exactly the wrong place to have it re-formed without tearing the metal. I’ve had the check since February, but it’s only been recently the weather’s been consistently decent enough for me to finally trust it enough to take the Miata out of storage… to get it fixed. *sigh*

Anyway, in conclusion, since I took it out of storage yesterday morning AND arranged for the body shop to order parts (and paint), Peeves has been quiet. However, it got Val thinking she needs to vacuum out the Accord… and soon…. And Janet probably needs to think very hard about scrubbing the Civic when she gets home next week, too.
