Thursday afternoon I mailed (via certified mail / return receipt requested) my letter of resignation to The Company. Received the Return Receipt in today’s mail, telling me it was delivered yesterday (Friday), signed for by a person I know.

Basically, the letter was all of three (3) sentences, stating that I’ve been laid off twice now for far too long a period, and if I WERE to be called back to work, I have no assurance that I wouldn’t be laid off yet a third time… which is absolutely true. Out of the past 15 months, I have only worked PART-TIME for about 4 months. And I cannot help but feel that the 2nd lay-off was due LESS to the economy than to the fact that I was taking college classes and had not simply dropped them like hot potatoes when I was called back to work. At that point, I was left feeling as though the boss - while announcing his dislike of the unemployment system - expected me to be docilely sitting on a shelf (so to speak) anxiously awaiting the call-back to work. Never mind the economy in March 2009 was looking so sour that I decided to do something productive during my lay-off period and start taking some classes. Never mind that before I was called back in October 2009, I’d completed 2 classes and was 2/3 completed with 2 others and had 1 more scheduled for Spring Semester. Never mind that I was convinced by June of 2009 that the likelihood of BEING called back was slim-to-none. Never mind…. OH NEVER MIND.

There was a call a couple of weeks ago. The boss was “checking my availability”; well, I had Finals the next week (sensed his interest drop a couple notches); I needed 3 weeks in June for the Windiana China Tour (tour plus the week I return to prepare to send Nook off to London - heck, I was laid-off, not put in the freezer! Expect me to NOT make ANY plans??) - major backpedaling at that, with a “I need to talk to someone about personnel needs” and that he’d get back with me… which to this date has not occurred.

Hence, my decision.

Tired of the games.

I. Took. Control.

Thing is, now I get to wait to find out what The Company’s response to my letter will be. I stated “effective immediately”. Will they call me on Monday (I’m surprised I didn’t hear from them on Friday…) and try to negotiate? Or just schedule my “exit interview” (if they even conduct such a thing)?

This is going to be interesting.
