I was returning from running a quick errand (in DGSLD, with dogz), heading north-ish on Holly Road. All the NB vehicles ahead of me had come to a stop… I didn’t see at first what was going on… and there was no SB traffic at that moment.

Got closer and saw…. two adult geese and a HUGE flock of goslings! Two of the goslings had separated from the group and were in the SB lanes going their own way (I guess). Tension arose when traffic appeared from the north…..WHEW! The SB traffic halted. We all (what, maybe a dozen of us?) patiently waited while the large group mounted the curb to the east and headed for the small lake. The two babies remained in the SB lanes, looking rather confused, then one of them broke into a run and caught up with the group; the other apparently panicked and went back to the west side of the road. At that point, with the road cleared, everyone continued on toward their own destinations…. but I departed reluctantly, because I felt badly about the little guy having gone the wrong way. Someone behind me pulled into a business to the west… don’t know if that was his destination, or if he was on an impromptu rescue mission.

I have to say, though, it made my day to see everyone just stop for the geese. No honking. No attempt to drive through the group. Just simple courtesy and patience.

Thank you folks, whoever you are!
